Live food show back for Big Nibble 2013

THE BIG NIBBLE is back and it’s bigger than ever this year.

The Carfax in Horsham town centre will once again play host to the exciting ‘Live Food Show’ with demonstrations from 10 renowned local culinary talents, who will be showcasing their abilities on Saturday August 31.

Taking place opposite Panino Café within the town centre, the Live Food Show is just one part of The Big Nibble weekend (August 31 and September 1), Horsham’s very own local food and drink extravaganza, organised by Horsham District Council in conjunction with Horsham Markets.

A high spec kitchen will be shipped in and used on the day by a number of chefs from exclusive hotels and local restaurants, as well as traders from Horsham’s weekly local produce market.

Collectively forming a live programme of entertainment, these demonstrations will be one of the many highlights of the weekend.

Matt Gillan, Head Chef at The Pass restaurant at South Lodge Hotel in Lower Beeding, will be returning to the event once again this year.

Having achieved his first Michelin Star in 2011, Matt has been credited with The Pass’ significant success as well as receiving national recognition with an appearance on the BBC’s Great British Menu.

Roger Paterson (Con, Pulborough and Coldwaltham), Horsham District Council’s Cabinet Member for the Local Economy, said:

“The cookery spectacular that is the ‘Live Food Show’ is one of the most highly anticipated elements of The Big Nibble weekend and I’m looking forward to another year of fantastic cookery displays.

“It’s great to see that once again the Horsham District’s wonderful range of local produce is being used during the demonstration processes and I encourage visitors to make sure they don’t miss the ‘Live Food Show’ this year.”

The programme is professionally compered by foodie Hilary Knight, founder of Sussex Food and Drink Network. Hilary works with chefs and food and drinks producers from across Sussex and will be engaging with the public and interacting with demonstrators on the day, teasing out their top tips.

“The line up of chefs and producers who will be demonstrating this year at The Big Nibble is fantastic.

“We have representatives from 10 different establishments who will inspire the public with their dishes and knowledge of local produce. It is always exciting to interview the chefs and discover what inspires and motivates them.

“Once again Horsham’s Big Nibble will be a great experience for anyone interested in learning more about local food and drink.”

Horsham’s own Jordon Powell, winner of the RIBI National Young Chef of the Year at just 14 years old, will be demonstrating for the very first time at this year’s Live Food Show.

Jordon’s meteoric rise has been attributed to his extraordinary determination and genuine love for cooking. His demonstration is at 2pm on Saturday 31 August and should not be missed.

Whilst visitors will witness cooking at its very finest, there will certainly be opportunities for free tasters and onlookers will be encouraged to watch and learn so they can practise the experience at home for themselves.

There are plenty more events taking place as part of The Big Nibble celebrations on both Saturday and Sunday, including a huge local produce market, the Horsham Beer Trail, Nibble Trail and the Great Horsham Bake Off, as well as live music, street theatre and more.

Horsham District Council would like to thank all partners and sponsors for their involvement with the event, including: Horsham Markets, The District Post, West Sussex County Times, West Sussex Gazette, Mid Sussex Times, Horsham Weekend Herald, Skoda Station Garage, Southern, The Black Jug, Spirit FM, Southdowns Historic Vehicles, Beales, Steamer Trading Cookshop, Waitrose and South Lodge Hotel.
