Lock me up Ryeman tells judge

Damian Brinkley, of New Winchelsea Road, appeared at Lewes Crown Court together with Ivor Brinkley, of South Cliff, Eastbourne.

They were accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Rye on October 24 last year.

Ivor Brinkley pleaded not guilty and Damien Brinkley pleaded guilty.

Both men were on bail but Damian Brinkley asked the judge to remand him in custody until the case is heard on May 12.

The court heard that his bail condition of a curfew and electronic tag was causing him difficulty in living with his father.

Damian Brinkley was remanded in custody while Ivor Brinkley was freed on bail with the condition that he does not enter Rye unless to attend a doctor’s appointment.

The man who was injured was set upon as he made his way home from a local pub shortly after 11pm on October 24.

He suffered deep cuts to his face and right arm after allegedly being hit by a broken bottle.

The attack launched a police hunt with house to house enquires.

Police in the Rye area are currently holding Neighbourhood Panel meetings to set crime priorities in local communities.

A meeting took place at Camber Memorial Hall on Tuesday and followed meetings at Rye and Beckley earlier this month.

Priorities set for Rye include tackling anti-social behaviour, drug taking and speeding vehicles.
