This follows a great volume of resident complaints after the sub Post Office had closed and re-opened in numerous locations along Pulborough’s Lower Street since 2012.

But on Friday (February 7) Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert said the new facility will be an ‘important service’ for people in the area, especially for the elderly and those who do not have cars.

“After some difficulty it’s good that it’s finally found such an interesting home in Gatley’s Pet Supplies Store,” said Mr Herbert.

“The Chief Executive of the Post Office said she’s determined to keep all the Post Offices open.”

Regional Manager for the South East Post Office Limited, Martine Munby, said she is delighted to see a ‘bright new’ Post Office.

She said: “There had been a temporary closure and there was concern over the future of the Post Office and I myself had a meeting with Pulborough Parish Council.

“Obviously we’re delighted it’s now got the retail signs out and we urge local people to use.”

Pulborough parish councillor Graham Buck added: “I think it’s very important to the village to keep the services here.”

The new Post Office operator Robin Duke joined Mr Herbert and staff members for a picture as they cut the ribbon and official launched the service that started in August 2013.

Mr Herbert continued: “I think Post Office’s are really important in our community. They are a hub and provide important services for people.”

The new Pulborough Post Office at Gatley’s Pet Supplies Store, located in 81b Lower Street, offers services at the retail counter from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.
