Karen, of Saltdean Close, said: "Lulu had been seen in a neighbour's garage early that morning.

"Shortly after that sighting the neighbour drove into Bexhill town centre for a quick visit to a shop.

She left the car for no longer than ten minutes and then started to drive towards home again, leaving the town along Cooden Drive.

"The neighbour then heard a noise and saw Lulu run across the road.

"She is uncertain as to where exactly she was at the moment."

Karen has been looking along Cooden Drive and Terminus Road "as well as all the side roads at all hours of the day and night to no avail."

Posters have been put up on lamposts appealing to the public, and also in some local shops.

Karen added: "We have been told by various cat rescue centres that it is still early days and that cats' have great homing instincts, but as the time lengthens we are worried that she has been injured or wandered off in totally the wrong direction.

"I know that most people will think it's only a cat, but it is the old clich that she is a much loved and missed member of the family."

Lulu appears black at first sight but in direct sunlight has tabby markings. She has green eyes.

She is chipped but was not wearing a collar.
