Loving new home neededfor little orphan Annie

It’s been a hard knock life for little Annie, an orphaned puppy who was abandoned in a cardboard box at just 10 days old.

The canine castaway, now being cared for by Blue Cross pet charity in Northiam, was the only surviving member of her family.

The tiny Staffordshire bull terrier cross puppy was handed over to the leading pet charity with her seven siblings by a member of the public who said the dogs’ mother had died. But because the litter were too young to be away from their mum and in very poor condition, six of the pups had died, leaving little orphan Annie all alone.

Claire Rowe, deputy rehoming centre manager for Blue Cross in Northiam, said: “It’s so sad that Annie doesn’t have any brothers and sisters to grow up with but when pups are so small and don’t have their mum, their chances of survival are very slim.

“Luckily, Annie has survived against the odds and she is such a little character. But sadly she is just one of many abandoned puppies and kittens coming through our doors as people aren’t getting their pets neutered.”

With no mum to look after her, Annie was initially fed around the clock by nurses at the Blue Cross animal hospital. Now eight weeks old, Annie is being cared for by one of the charity’s volunteer foster carers, who will help Annie get used to life in a family environment. She will soon be ready to find a permanent home of her own.
