Lucy finds new four-legged friend

A kind-hearted Observer reader has ensured a Bognor Regis woman's life contains a canine companion again.

The donation of a six-and-a-half year old Westie called Theo delighted Lucy Demosthensis.

Lucy, 60, of Hastings Close, said it was love at first sight when she met Theo.

"He licked my hand as soon as he saw me. When he did that, I looked at my friend Anne Assheton and winked. I knew I was falling in love with him," she said.

Lucy and Theo, whose previous owner was finding him a handful, have since been getting to know each other well.

She had been lonely since late May when her previous four-legged friend, Yorkshire terrier-cross Bella, died after a clash with another dog.

"I do still miss Bella," said Lucy. "And it's still early days with Theo but he is absolutely lovely."
