Maintenance of Worthing Pier

A SECOND phase of maintenance work has been completed at Worthing Pier.

Contractor Aarsleff has been working within tidal windows on the Sir Robert Rawlinson-designed pier, which was built in 1861, to replace rotten and weathered timber piles from a section of the landing stage that surrounds the southern end of the pier.

The piles were driven into the underlying chalk seabed after Worthing Borough Council constructed a piling mat using recycled seabed material from the east of the pier to provide a stable working platform.

Leon Woods, of Aarsleff, said: “Helping restore this magnificent tourist attraction has made this project particularly rewarding.”
