Make windows and doors secure say police in Worthing

POLICE are urging people in Worthing to keep their windows and doors securely locked, even if they are inside their homes.

The warning comes after two thefts and another attempted theft in the space of a few days.

A handbag was stolen from a house in St Michael's Road when the thief got inside through an insecure back door, between 6pm on Friday and 10am on Sunday.

Another burglary happened on Friday at a nursing home in Mill Road.

The thief got in through a unlocked rear door and a black handbag containing cash and credit cards was stolen.

On Saturday, at 8.30pm, in First Avenue, a resident challenged a man who was seen standing on top of a porch trying to open a top floor window.

The man, who ran off, is described as white, 6ft tall, with dark curly hair. He was wearing a light- coloured t-shirt.

Worthing police sergeant Ian Kerr said: "It appears opportunist thieves are quickly nipping inside unsecured premises and stealing items they find close to hand.

"We would remind homeowners to ensure their doors and windows are locked, even if they are indoors."
