Man in serious condition after A21 crash

A motorist is in a serious condition in hospital after his car veered off the road and hit a tree at Robertsbridge.

Emergency services were called to the A21 at Silverhill just after 12.30am on Wednesday.

The car, a Ford Fiesta, had been travelling south towards the Salehurst roundabout when the accident happened.

Fire crews from Battle and Broad Oak used specialist hydraulic cutting equipment to free the 40-year-old driver from the vehicle.

The man, from St Leonards, was taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings where he was treated for serious leg, pelvis and head injuries.

He remains in a serious condition.

Sergeant Dave Morgan, of Sussex Police, said: "The road was closed for several hours whilst emergency services attended and the incident could be fully investigated."

There were no passengers in the vehicle.
