Man punched in head and threatened with knife in robbery

A man who chased a knife-wielding intruder from his house was punched in the head as he confronted him outside, police have said.

Officers said the man was indoors in his house in Lyons Road, in Slinfold, on Wednesday (June 8) when he heard a noise a around 8.45pm and went to investigate.

A spokesman said: “He confronted the suspect on a first floor balcony who jumped over railings and into the garden.

“He ran through the house and caught up with the man in the lane outside.

“When he challenged him, the man produced a knife that he had taken from a Land Rover Defender parked outside and then came towards the victim, punching him on his cheek, eye socket and nose. He ran off and was not seen again.”

A police helicopter, which had been attending an incident in Three Bridges, joined the search for the man who is described as white, in his 30s, 5’ 11”, of slim build, balding with dark hair. He has an English accent.

Police said a Land Rover satnav was also stolen from the Defender and two pairs of Porsche sunglasses were taken from inside the house.

Anyone who saw the suspect in the area around the time of incident is asked to email [email protected] call 101 quoting serial 1808 of 08/06.
