The investigation was passed to Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team when investigators from West Sussex Fire and Rescue discovered the blaze had been started deliberately using white spirit.

A 29-year-old man from Bognor Regis was arrested last month after detectives linked two other incidents involving accelerants to the blaze that killed Mr Davies.

Police said that white spirit had been poured in front of a home in nearby Bayford Road, Littlehampton, and a car was set alight in Granville Road just hours before for the fatal fire.

A post-mortem examination showed Mr Davies, who worked at Morrisons, in Wick, died from the effects of breathing in smoke.

The man from Bognor Regis has been rebailed until May 8 while investigations continue.
