Police were called to Old London Road where a 33-year-old man from Croydon had been found in the street with a cut to his hand at around 9pm.

He had received the injury in an altercation with a group of men at a nearby flat in the same road just beforehand and ran to the nearby Texaco petrol station to get help.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service crew treated the man at the scene before taking him to the Conquest Hospital.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances.

A nearby alley was cordoned off until around 2pm on Saturday by police.

There are a lot of unconfirmed rumours on social media about the incident with some people claiming he was stabbed by a machete and the fight was after a burglary.
