The first speciality market of the year opened on Tuesday and will last until Saturday. Some 15 stalls are present. They are selling goods such as handicrafts, garden furniture and food like paella.

Town centre manager Toyubur Rahman said on Tuesday: “The market looks really good. They have white roofs so it gives them a uniform appearance. It was busy in the precinct when I was there on Tuesday lunchtime. I hope that continues.

Further speciality markets are being held by Mr Rahman in the precinct from August 2 and November 29.

In the meantime, he is staging an artisan market in the Old Town, the Norfolk Street area of the High Street, on April 9.
