Massive tax rise?

HOMES in West Sussex are being snooped on by officials in a move to create a new tax banding of homes, which will penalise properties for having patios, a view across the countryside or even for having a conservatory, it has been claimed.

The result could be the pushing up of council tax bills to a massive level, East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton has warned.

He said new evidence had emerged through Freedom of Information requests that a council tax revaluation was being planned.

Council tax inspectors had been secretly recording details of homes across Adur.

Mr Loughton has issued a call for the tax inspectors to 'come clean' about their plans to increase taxes on family homes. He said the aim clearly was to fill a black hole in Britain's finances.

He said: "Claims that the council tax revaluation in England had been shelved have been exposed as a complete sham. Council tax inspectors have been caught red-handed preparing the way for massive tax rises in Adur. The Government must now make it clear exactly how many homes in the county have been secretly logged and recorded to date.

"People who rent will be taxed just as heavily as those who own their home. It is appalling to think of taxing people for looking out of their own windows or having a nice patio."
