St.Richard's recently received news of his outstanding achievement in a letter from Edexcel.

Jerry Jarvis, Edexcel's Managing Director, said: "This is a tremendous achievement and testament to the hard work students put into preparing for their exams. We send our congratulations to Hamish."

Geraldine Machin, Hamish's Maths teacher at St. Richard's, describes her former pupil as "a highly motivated, hard-working and talented pupil." In addition to his A* in Maths achieved 11 other A*s and 1 A in his GCSE exams.

Hamish himself was modest about his success saying: "I thought they must have made a mistake when I first read the letter."

He commented: "I worked hard for my GCSEs as all my teachers at St. Richard's encouraged and challenged me to achieve the best I could."

He has recently started studying for a Double Maths A2, which he hopes to achieve in one year, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Music at Lewes College. As for his ambitions for the future, in addition to his interest in pursuing his interest in Maths and Science, he also has a passion for music.

Hamish has reached Grade 8 in the Saxophone and enjoys playing Jazz. While at St.Richard's, he regularly performed with a small Jazz group in school and in the wider community. He is continuing to play regularly and perform at college.
