Matt achieves lawnmower ambition

BARNS Green farmer Matt Jones fulfilled a long-standing ambition when his team clinched the Templar Challenge Trophy at the annual lawnmower races at Brinsbury at the weekend.

Racing under the banner of Promo Racing using a Honda engine on a tractor base, he and team mates Mark Seamore and Chris Johnson won the coveted endurance trophy for the most laps covered during the 12-hour event.

They covered 388 laps and 329.8 miles during the marathon event.

Matt said: "I'm thrilled to have won this trophy. It has on it the names of Stirling Moss and Derek Bell, and it is the only cup in the world where an ordinary man like myself can have his name alongside two great racing drivers."
