Medieval Fair comes to town

Battle Medieval Fair rolls into town this weekend (Sunday and Monday) and all are invited to help the ever popular event celebrate its 20th anniversary year.

Alongside stalls selling a variety of wares on the Abbey Green, potters and lace makers demonstrate their skills, the medieval falconers return to display their beautiful birds and both children and adults can take part in activities such as the Crossbow Game.

New for 2010, Radiator Arts, in partnership with Beautiful Battle, will hold a Scarecrow Workshop.

For just 2.50, the workshop will show participants how to create their own scarecrow with a few canes, some fabric, raffia and little imagination.

The workshop is a taster for the main Scarecrow Festival in July, when 70 characters will be coming into Battle for 'Market Day' - but spending three weeks here.

A collection will be made at the workshop, and throughout the festival, to be divided between St Michael's Hospice and Beautiful Battle.

Over in the events arena, don't miss the Merry Maypolers and the hilarious Singing Plague Victims. Learn first hand from the Hands on History group how a medieval knight would dress in preparation for battle, and you may even be asked to help model some armour to the crowds gathered in the shadow of the imposing Battle Abbey, where history was made in 1066.
