Reader Sarah Lewis, who lives in Brighton, said she clearly remembered Wogan playing Buttons in Cinderella at the Connaught Theatre some time in the early 1970s.

“He gave me a lollipop when I was one of the children going on stage. I think it may be 1974 or 1975,” she said.

Although she did admit she hadn’t been too impressed at the time.

“I was disappointed to get the lolly off him because I wanted it from Cinderella,” she explained.

“As years passed, I am delighted now.”
