Midhurst Music Society Christmas concert

Mary Knight, music director of Midhurst’s Music Society (MMS), is bringing a feast of Medieval and Renaissance Christmas music to the heart of Midhurst with a concert to be performed at the Millennium Hall on Saturday, December 12, at 7.30pm.

The society promises the event will offer an ‘interesting alternative’ to other Christmas concerts.

The programme will include medieval carols, music composed by King Henry VIII and Charpentier’s Music for a Midnight Mass written in the 17th century.

The instrumentalists will include members of the Southern Early Music Forum and other musicians from across the area who will be playing early instruments including lutes, recorders, viols and a theorbo or arch-lute.

Henry Beltran from the society said: “This is an ideal concert for all the family and music specialists as it will offer an opportunity to enjoy rarely performed Christmas choral and instrumental music.”

Tickets are available from choir members, from the Tall Dog in Rumbolds Hill or by telephone from 01730 812783.

Tickets cost £8 in advance or £10 at the door.

Midhurst Music Society has always supported Education through Music so children’s and students’ tickets are free. Refreshments will be served in the interval.

The society was founded in 1966 and has served Midhurst by presenting high quality choral concerts ever since.

Henry added: “Rehearsals for the summer 2016 concert will commence in February and new members are warmly invited to come and share the fun of making good music. You do not have to be an expert singer - you will be guided through every step of the rehearsal.

“MMS is keen to promote the performance and enjoyment of good music in Midhurst, by Midhurst people. What better way to support the community than by joining its choir?”
