The eighth annual awards took place in Melton Mowbray last week and this year 816 pies were entered from 132 professional bakers and butchers.
Undergoing a thorough judging process from over 100 top pie experts, including TV chef Andy Bates, food critic Charles Campion and chef Rachel Green, Mud Foods’ game pie was given the class champion accolade based on a range of criteria, including appearance, texture and taste.

Hide AdChristian Barrington, chief pie maker and inventor and his wife, Toni, are the team behind Mud Pies.
Inspired by a fond childhood memory of his mother and grandmother making homemade pies and disillusioned by a fairly dull work life in sales, Christian set about creating his very own pie company.
Armed with a passion for tasty pies, a dream and a mere fifty pie tins, Christian started producing his first batch of pies in a small unit in Chichester. The company is now based at Midhurst.
