MINI MOTO-BIKES WARNING

The number of calls police have received concerning the inappropriate use of mini-motorbikes and trials bikes has increased.

While there is a legitimate recreational use for these vehicles, it is not on the roads or in public spaces. Sergeant George Meloy said: 'It would appear that parents are purchasing these vehicles for their children without realising that in order to ride them the rider must have a driving licence and third party insurance.

'We have already seized and impounded a number of these vehicles. Over the summer months I will be working directly with staff at Lewes District Council to deal with the annual issue of trials bikes being ridden over the South Downs, which are a protected area.'
