The tribute was proposed by The Rev David Coote who told fellow members of the town council who were meeting at their Old Library home: “Though an MP with much wider responsibilities, Jo Cox sought to build a harmonious community in her constituency in which people of all sorts and persuasions are respected and valued.

“She espoused the same community values that we around this table espouse - that we as a local council aspire to.

“I propose that it is entirely appropriate that we have a short silence to remember her and all those who in their service are prepared to put their heads above the parapet and are prepared to face vilification or as in the case of Jo Cox, worse.”
