Missing make-up artist's brother appeals for help

The brother of missing make-up artist Diane Chenery-Wickens has appealed for help to find her.

At a press conference in Eastbourne today (Wednesday) Russell Wickens said: 'Our family is appealing to anyone who may have seen Diane.

'She was reported missing on January 24 and the police urgently need to hear from anyone who saw or had been in contact with Diane in the seven days before her disappearance. Of course, we also want to hear from anyone who has seen or heard from her since that day.

'We have no idea where Diane is and need your help to find her. If anyone did have any contact with her during that week, please contact Sussex Police in complete confidence.

'This is an extremely worrying time for her parents and family. It is uncharacteristic behaviour for Diane not to be in touch or to know that the uncertainty of her whereabouts might be causing concern and do nothing about it.'

Mrs Chenery-Wickens, 48, went missing from her home in Duddleswell three weeks ago.

Her husband David was arrested on suspicion of her murder and later released on bail without charge.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Johns, who is leading the investigation, said: 'We are in close liaison with her family, have spoken with friends and colleagues, searched her home and specific sites in Sussex and have appealled to the general public and anyone who may have seen or been in contact with her before she disappeared.

'We have had remarkably few calls.

'The last friend to contact Diane, according to the information we have received, is a female friend who spoke with her on the phone between 5pm and 6pm on January 22. Family, friends and colleagues had spoken with her in the days up to and including the 22nd. Diane was reported missing two days later.

'We have collected and viewed CCTV in an effort to retrace her steps. At the moment we have not been able to identify Diane on any of the CCTV footage we have viewed so far and, as far as we are aware, she did not attend a meeting at the BBC on the 24th of January.

'Diane was reported to have gone missing after taking a train to London from East Grinstead railway station.'

He added: 'We have about 100 people working on this enquiry, including those involved in searches and forensic support.

'We have searched Diane's home in Duddleswell and found her passport and driving licence there, along with other personal belongings. Her bank accounts have not been touched since she disappeared and there has been no activity on her mobile phone either.'
