More support for the Bognor's cinema

WELL over 500 replies have been received to its Picturedrome survey by Bognor Regis Town Council.

Cllr Roger Nash said: “The overwhelming majority of them are in favour of improving, upgrading and extending the Picturedrome and against a multiplex.

People want some other form of leisure attraction on the Regis Centre site.”

The town council issued the survey in January to raise awareness among its residents of the threat to the Picturedrome posed by the proposal for a multiplex on the Regis Centre site as part of Arun District Council’s regeneration plans.

District councillor Francis Oppler pledged his support to the town council’s campaign.

“I fully support the town council and the Picturedrome and I am solidly behind you,” he said.

“It’s quite clear Arun have no alternative to a multiplex and they are openly hingeing the overall regeneration plan on it.”

A petition carried out by Bognor Regis Civic Society which calls on Arun District Council to protect the Picturedrome by refusing to allow its land to be used for an alternative cinema has attracted some 6,000 signatures. The petition can be signed at the Picturedrome and shops around the town centre.
