Motorists tackle night closures on main A259

RYE area motorists are facing two weeks of overnight road closure on the main A259 between Guldeford Crossing and Kent Ditch.

The Environment Agency imposed the road closures on Monday while it carries out re-surfacing work.

The section of the A259 will be closed between 8pm and 6am, when traffic flows are lower, to keep disruption to road users to a minimum.

But the Agency has stressed that clearly signed diversions will be in place.

On certain days there will also be a need for two-way temporary traffic lights to be in operation during the daytime as the surfacing materials being used settle.

Whilst the road closure is in place overnight, any road users wishing to travel eastbound on the A259 past the works site will be directed onto the Camber Road southbound through Camber on Lydd Road.

They will continue eastbound to Jury’s Gap Road into Lydd, to join Tourney Road, and then Robin Hood Lane northbound straight over the roundabout onto Harden Road northbound.

They will then be directed onto the B2075 Romney Road northbound to join the A259 Lydd Road northbound at Hammonds Corner.

At the Brenzett roundabout road users will be directed to take the first left onto the A259 Straight Lane to Brooklands roundabout where the diversion route ends.

While the road closure is in place overnight, road users wishing to travel westbound on the A259 past the works site will be directed to use the diversion route described above but in the opposite direction.

A Highways Agency spokemsan said: “We always plan maintenance and improvement projects carefully to allow works to be completed safely and in a cost-effective way - while keeping any disruption to road users to a absolute minimum.

“We do as much work as possible overnight and when roads are less busy in order to keep more lanes open for road users at peak travel times.

Drivers are being advised to check their route for road works and then allow any extra time for their journeys where needed.

“We have a variety of journey planning tools that road users can use to check travel conditions on the roads we manage, and we will do all we can to keep road users informed.”
