A BAD START: Just as we filed this column, Bill Humphreys phoned so say that he and Merilyn woke this morning to find that the blighters who stole a potted fern from outside the Old Chapel last week had returned to nick two further potted ferns and two large potted fuchsias. If you tot up the cost of five large ceramic planter pots plus the plants themselves you quickly get a tidy sum. Above all, it’s a horrible way for your day to start. Our guess is that thy were nicked to sell on as, in our experience, gardeners are as honest a lot as you will find as is clear from the fact that most stalls at the Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows simply has an honesty box for catalogue money. Everyone needs to keep their eyes on anything similar in their own front gardens

ST MICHAEL’S: Barbara Valentine reports: “The Summer Fayre at St Michaels Hospice was a great success despite the rain. I only did seven or eight portraits, all of children, so didn’t raise as much money as I usually do. Luckily, I have been given donations for the hospice by people to whom I’d given cards of Louis’s paintings, so have an extra £100 to pay into the hospices bank. Looking forward to our art classes that start in the Village Hall on the 15th and 16th of September.”

TREASURE HUNT: A final reminder that tomorrow (Saturday September 12th) is the Mountfield Club’s car treasure hunt. Starting times will be between 5.00 and 6.00 pm. Weather permitting, there will be a BBQ (forecast not too bad at the time of typing). Entry is £5.00 per car. Call Glenn 07917 752576 to enter.

MOUNTFIELD RIDE/WALK: Saturday September 19th is the date for the Mountfield Ride/Walk. Good weather has been booked. Entry forms, prices, etc are available from your Village Voices. All proceeds to Mountfield Church.
