Jackie Spriggs has written with details of the Visitation by the Bishop of Chichester to Brightling, Mountfield and Netherfield: The Right Reverend Dr. Martin Warner reaches Brightling, Mountfield and Netherfield on Friday 6th December on his episcopal progress to every parish in the Diocese of Chichester. His Visitation will commence at St. John the Baptist Church, Netherfield, at twelve noon with a service of Holy Communion to which the congregations of all three parishes are warmly invited, followed by a light lunch, after which he will meet with the churchwardens, then visit All Saints, Mountfield, and St. Thomas a Becket at Brightling. We hear from Vicky Staley and Caroline Hollamby that the response to the Mountfield Children’s Christmas Party seems a bit sluggish this year so here are the details again. It will take place on Saturday, December 21, from 4.00 till 6.00 pm. Entertainment will be provided by Uncle Bumble and a there will be a special visit by Father Christmas. All children in Mountfield parish of primary school age (or younger) are invited to attend this free event which is funded by the Mountfield Village Hall Committee. If children would like to attend, please send an email to [email protected] confirming the names and ages of the children. Alternatively please text/call 07900 827462. If any grandparents in the parish have grandchildren they’d like to bring along, they are very welcome to do so for a suggested donation of £5.00.

There have been several new posts on the parish website (mountfield.org.uk). The draft minutes of the last Parish Council Meeting have now been posted. So too has Southern Water’s Draft Water Resources Management Plan. We skimmed through this for anything of local interest or relating to Darwell Reservoir. We concluded that the Parish Council minutes are considerably more interesting than we had previously realised.

It is interesting to hear on the grapevine that Mountfied is not alone. A glance at other local websites, such as our own suburb of Brightling (www.brightling.org.uk), shows that all have one concern in common: potholes!

The Mountfield Club’s two darts teams played each other recently with Mountfield A beating Mountfield B 4-3 on the night. There were wins in the A team for Alex Gray, Danny Overy, Kevin Gray and Paul Last. The shove team lost 2-3 with wins for Barry Reader and Mark Hardy. The B team fared better the following week beating The King’s Head 4-3 with Pat, Bob, Glen and Dave Smith winning their legs. The Club’s snooker team suffered a 4-1 home defeat to Division 3 leaders Battle D with Sean Spillett winning the only frame for Mountfield. It’s cup action this week when Mountfield play host to Division 1 team Battle.

The Club recently did a Help For Heroes charity darts night which has now raised approximately £450.The club would like to thank member Sally Hayler for her efforts in organizing the event. Club and committee member Danny Overy is also doing his bit for charity, raising money for Great Ormond Street children’s hospital, by dyeing his hair mauve for the month of Movember.

By the time you read this, we will be back to the daily grind but, as we type this out, we are away on holiday. However, according to our reckoning, it will be the Lunch Club on Monday (December 2). Please let Ruby know by Sunday latest if you can make it.

We will be reporting next week on the informal meeting held to discuss the 2014 Mountfield Village Fête. We will also catch up on the response to Southern Water’s drop-in sessions last week.
