Firstly, credit where credit is due, Julienne has asked me to point out that she has learnt the team who won the Tug of War at the fete on 23rd June comprised of British Gypsum Contractors and members of the Men’s Club.

Congratulations to everybody who made up the team on their achievement!.

Mountfield Village Hall looked splendid on the afternoon of Saturday 28th July when the Horticultural Society had the annual Flower Show there. The exhibits of plants, vegetables, flowers, fruit, cookery, crafts and photographs had been set out really well and made a great display to be looked at. Refreshments were enjoyed sitting in the club or outside in the sunshine. Children and adults alike also enjoyed taking part in various games that were available to keep them entertained. Chairperson Jim Ray introduced Mrs Kath Garland who presented the Cups to winners at the end of the afternoon ( details of who won the cups will hopefully appear next week. ) Other prizewinners were presented with their winnings and raffle was drawn concluding a very pleasant afternoon which people had put a lot of effort into.

As mentioned last week, on Saturday 11th August between 10a.m. and 4.30 p.m., Trevor Sully’s book ‘Silas and the Mountfield Treasure’ will be launched in the village hall. The event is being organised by Dave Craven, Colin Harmer and Trish Jones. It will be an exclusive launch of the book about the Mountfield hoard, a tale that interweaves gold, greed and criminality with local history right in the heart of the village. There will also be an extensive exhibition of pictures, many previously unpublished from the vast Parish Archive and a display of local Archeological finds, including many which have never been displayed before. Sounds like an interesting event.
