Mountfield village voice

Jackie Spriggs has asked me to include the following information about All Saints Church, Mountfield; It is now eighteen months that we have been without a Rector.

However we have been very well served by several retired clergy to whom we are very grateful. We have established a pattern of services with Netherfield, and now Brightling has come into the mix as well. On the first, second and fifth Sundays we move around between the churches, but the third and fourth Sundays are fixed: on the third Sunday there is always a Service of Holy Communion at Mountfield when we are joined by Netherfield, and on the fourth Sunday there is always a service of Holy Communion at Netherfied, when Mountfield joins with Netherfield, both services commencing at 10.00am.

If you have an interest in farming and country ways in bygone Sussex, you are in for a treat on Friday 20th April at 7.30 in Mountfield Village Hall when Jean Woodgate is giving a repeat performance (the last one two years ago was a sell-out and is back by popular demand)– with some new material – of her amazing collection of archive slides with a commentary

on how our forebears worked the land from the mid 1800’s to the mid 1900’s. Entry on the door is £5 to include refreshments, and there will be a raffle as well. All proceeds go to the Mountfield Church Restoration Appeal, which is very timely: work to replace the joists and floorboards commences on Monday 16th April and the church will be closed for services and visitors for three to four weeks. During that time the Mountfield congregation will join Netherfield for services. For times and details of type or service, please refer to the Netherfield Village Voice Column.

Twelve members or the Robertsbridge Trefoil Guild enjoyed a lovely lunch at John’s Cross Inn on 5th April. The Trefoil Guild meets once a month (usually on the first Thursday in the afternoon.)

If you have an interest in Guiding and would like more details about joining, please contact Barbara Thomas 01580 819330. You do not have to have been a Brownie or Guide yourself.
