National Trust’s 50’s fete

THE National Trust property at Smallhythe Place, near Rye, is holding a 50’s inspired Jubilee fete on Saturday and Sunday June 2 and 3.

On Saturday evening there will be a chance to dance the night away to 50’s swing from the Chris Corcoran Trio.

There will be something for everyone over the weekend including one of house manager Paul Meredith’s famous real ale tents. The theme for the beers is that they would all have been around in the 50’s.

There will be some classic ales on offer like Batemans Dark Mild and Holts Bitter.

Among the featured beers will be JW Lees Moonraker, a beer first brewed by the Manchester company in 1950 – a classic reddish brown strong ale (7.5%) recently featured in 1001 Beers to Try Before You Die.

Local brewery Old Dairy are brewing a special beer for the weekend called ‘Diamond Top’ – a classic heavily hopped India Pale Ale at 6.0%.

Paul says he hopes the 50’s ales will help people fully enjoy the party atmosphere.
