Nativity displays raise funds in Littlehampton

MORE than 70 interpretations of the Christmas story helped raise funds for charity.

The Secular Franciscans of Littlehampton and Worthing (SFO) held a Nativity display at the Arun Ideas Shop, in Beach Road, last Friday and Saturday.

Stephanie Shephard, secretary of SFO, said: “We are delighted to say we raised £282.54 for the charity HOMElink.

“At times during Friday evening, we were very busy and some visitors came again on Saturday to have another look and make a donation.

“We managed just over 70 exhibits including an excellent creation from the pupils of St Catherine’s Catholic school, in Highdown Drive, Littlehampton.

“Many different countries were represented and many different materials and representations used, including a diorama using old-fashioned clothes pegs, scraps of materials and pipe cleaners.”

She went on to say two of the first visitors were Arun District Council’s chairman, councillor Dennis Wilde.

“We received many very favourable comments and compliments from members of the public.

“In fact, on the Saturday morning, there was already a hand-delivered letter waiting for us on our arrival to thank us,” she added.

“The ‘bush telegraph’ was in operation, and visitors were arriving saying they had been told by friends to come and see the event.

“Our own thanks go to everyone who made the event possible, including visitors to the exhibition and Arun District Council for the use of the Arun Ideas shop for the weekend.”
