Netherfield village voice

The funeral for Jim Lear who sadly passed away, will be held at Hastings Crematorium on 17th September, at 2pm, the wake will follow at Netherfield Village Hall.

There has been a collection by Jim’s friends around Darvel Down, the sum of £73.46 has been handed into the shop where there is a collection box which is still ongoing. If anyone would like to donate please pop into the shop. There are several ideas, after the flowers have been bought, as to what the surplus should be spent on to remember Jim, i.e. book of remembrance, if you have any views on this please let us know at the shop.

If you entered the sunflower competition can you please measure your flowers and hand this information to Marrissa or the shop, the winning height will then be verified and the winner announced.

WHITE HART The darts season is approaching again, anyone who wishes to play for their village team (I must add we play for fun and have a good night out!) come and see us, ask for Sean or Coral. The ladies only team play on Monday’s the mixed teams play on Thursday’s and Friday’s.

Netherfield Church – How lucky we were with the weather for our Treasure Hunt – a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon, perfect for the twelve cars that set out. Also perfect for the cream teas on their return. Congratulations to the winning team of Smith and Saunters family combination and to the Hodges as runners up. It was incredibly close with the majority of teams within a few points of each other but thankfully separated so the tie-break did not have to be used. The children enjoyed a further hunt in the garden (to enable the parents to recover over their teas) seeking hidden creatures. Well done to Eden and Seth for winning this one. It seemed to be a well received competition but we did get the usual stick over the ambiguity of some questions and discussion raged long and hard over the answers! It was good to see some new faces from as far away as St. Leonard’s and the usual stalwarts who support us so well. Thank you to everyone who contributed by making cakes and donating prizes and to the competitors for their support. The profit of £225 is a brilliant boost to church funds and was raised from entry fees, cream teas and competitions. Overall, a good afternoon, great fun and enjoyed by everyone.

Our service this Sunday is at Mountfield for our joint Holy Communion and on September 23 it is back to Netherfield for another joint Holy Communion. All services are at 10 am please check here each week or on notice boards at the churches for our services. The final service in September is our Harvest Festival at 11 am to be followed by a Harvest Lunch in the church.

I am pleased to report that the reorganisation of the Benefice has finally been ratified. A Pastoral Order made under the Mission and Pastoral Measure 2011 whereby Dallington has been taken out of the existing benefice and from the September 1 will form part of the new benefice of Warbleton, Bodle Street Green and Dallington. This results in the creation of our new benefice of Brightling, Mountfield and Netherfield. Paul Smith. Churchwarden.
