Netherfield Village - Diamond Jubilee Party/British Gypsum and residents 60 Year Reunion will be held on the village green opposite the shop from 2pm until 6pm and after at the White Hart Public House on Monday 4th June 2012 see facebook “Netherfield what’s on” for more information - Grand Raffle £1 per strip available on the day or from the village shop.

Village hall update - The village hall now has gas central heating installed, and the works have started on repairing the flood damage. The delay has been caused by the length of time it has taken to dry the hall out and the crack that appeared in the main hall floor. Once all works are completed we will hopefully have a re- opening party, details to be confirmed at a later date.

We are planning a working party once the weather has improved to decorate and work on the outside of the building, if you are interested in lending a hand please contact Sue at the village shop, food and drink will be provided.

Netherfield Church – Our service this Sunday June 3 will be a Family Service, combined for Mountfield and Netherfield at Netherfield. The following Sunday June 10 will be a United Benefice Holy Communion where our three parishes join together at Netherfield. Sunday June 17 will be a Holy Communion at Mountfield and Sunday June 24 will be a Holy Communion at Netherfield. This is also the celebration of the birth of St John the Baptist and will be Netherfield’s Patronal Festival service. All services are at 10am, please check here each week or on notice boards at the churches for our services.

On the social front, the White Hart hosted another Quiz Night on our behalf and it was really well supported. Nearly 40 people took part and again it was a brilliant evening that everyone enjoyed, it was a close result and congratulations to Richard and his team for winning - again. Next time I think a ten point penalty should be applied to give others a chance. The next one is already arranged for Thursday June 28 so make a note now and come and join us. Primarily a fun evening for us all and it also raised £130 towards the running costs of our church. Thank you Sean for your hospitality, support and hard work in putting it on and to everyone who came and supported it, especially the new faces.

The immediate interest for everyone this weekend is the Jubilee Celebrations in Netherfield organised for Monday afternoon from 2pm until 6pm. Food, drink, entertainment, competitions, games and the Jubilee Coins available for each family attending. Because of the grants and donations everything is free and the emphasis is on the family and primarily our children. The Gypsum reunion will be part of these celebrations. The weather is looking reasonable at the moment so it should be a chance to get together and enjoy all the hard work that has been put into getting this together for the village. The festivities will carry on into the evening at the White Hart with music by Lumpy & the Lumpettes and a BBQ. I hope we all enjoy this very special weekend and help celebrate the magnificent service and dedication our Queen has given to our country. . Paul Smith Church Warden.

WHITE HART – Last week we held a charity quiz night in aid of Netherfield Church, we raised a total of £130.00 so a big thank you to all who turned up, it was nice to see some new faces. I, Sean, owe an apology as the quiz ran on past 11pm due to unforeseen matters! We have decided the Quiz on Thursday June 21 will start at 7.30pm but will not run later than 10pm. We hope this encourages those that do make a long journey or who work early in the morning can make the future quizzes. The Church is in need of money and it’s nice that the local village pub and the villagers can do their bit!

On Monday June 18 we are holding a paint your welly competition in aid of the new village play park all entries cost £1.00 per welly and have to be at the pub on the day before Sunday June 17, there are prizes for different age groups and the wellies will be on display for everyone to see.

Future events Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Party Monday June 4, live music from 5pm and BBQ in garden, weather permitting.
