CHILD'S play is even more fun now a Rustington playgroup has spent more than £5,500 on a new all-weather surface.

The 35 children attending Jane and Peter Community Playgroup will be able to enjoy the great outdoors even when all the surrounding grass is wet and muddy, thanks to their improved play area.

The group's fund-raising committee made a successful bid for 4,717 of lottery funding, and contributed around 800 from its own efforts to pay for the surface.

And when the little ones arrived back after their summer break, it was their first chance to test out the play surface, laid in the grounds of St Andrew's Church, Holmes Avenue, where the playgroup has been based for 32 years.

"They love it. Now they will be able to play outside in virtually all weather," said playgroup manager Marian Mackenzie.

"We are very grateful to the fund-raising committee and couldn't have done this without them."
