MORE FLOOD NEWS: Further to my piece last week regarding the flooding on Nevill Road and the recreation ground, I received the following email and I must say I was quite shocked that someone had such a disastrous experience in such a short space of time. Quote: '˜Having just read your piece in the parish pump about the recent flooding, I just wanted to let you know that we live right at the bottom of Mildmay Road where the soak away you mentioned, hasn't been completely filled in apparently. They did do some work on it years ago because of flooding up to our doorstep. However, since then we still get flood water accumulating outside our property and up our driveway towards our front door. Unfortunately the flooding we experienced four weeks ago, resulted in our car, which was on our drive all night, being written off. It flooded again last Friday, so not all of the deluge goes down to the junction with Nevill Road.'

CHRIST CHURCH: At a well-attended meeting of the Thinktank on 22 June, Professor Tony Fielding gave an interesting account of his recent work on internal migration within the UK. He discussed the factors that lead people to relocate from one town or local authority to another and how migration in one direction is often balanced by movement in the other. There was a lively period of questions and discussion after the introductory talk. The next Thinktank will be on Wednesday August 3 at 7.30pm when Dr Tom Crossett will lead the evening on the topic of Climate Change: Paris eight months on. Worship on Sunday at 10.30am will be led by David Coleman with Sunday Club for children.

GARDENING CLUB: The St Mary’s Gardening Club is meeting on Monday at 7.45pm in the main hall of St Mary Social Centre. Our speaker is to be Neil Archard who will be talking to us about Cacti and Succulents. We know him as a judge at our shows but his big passion is cacti. He will be bringing along some of his collection and telling us about them and how to care for them. I think most of us have had one of these spikey beasts in our homes and could benefit from knowing how to get the best out of them. There will be refreshments and a raffle. Visitors welcome.
