He brings with him 19 years' experience in the water industry and has a strong background in operations and engineering.

Speaking from the company's head offices in Haywards Heath, Martin said: "I am joining South East Water at a crucial time, with a number of major challenges ahead. Water resources are uppermost in our minds, and we will continue to work with our customers, with other water companies and the Environment Agency to make the best use of water across the region.

Martin joins South East Water following his most recent role as Asset Director with Southern Water. During his fast moving career, he has worked in every area of water supply and distribution.

Welcoming the appointment, Peter Dyer, chairman of the company, said: 'Martin joins us at one of the busiest times in our company history. His depth of experience across all aspects of the water industry makes him the right choice for this highly-demanding position.'

Martin's appointment follows the planned decision by Margaret Devlin to leave England for a new life in New Zealand. Margaret stepped down after seven years as Managing Director and a total of 15 years with South East Water in various managerial roles.
