New cameras

SECURITY at Buckingham Middle School, Shoreham, has been stepped up to deter vandals from smashing windows and stop break-ins.

Caretaker Keith Tombs said they had installed four CCTV cameras around the school in Buckingham Road and motion detectors in all of the classrooms after vandals had smashed several windows over the past few months.

Mr Tombs said: "What happened was that we had a whole load of vandalism and some break-ins. We lost five computers. So we decided to beef up security.

"We have invested in a new computer suite, so we have put two motion detectors in there."

He said the money for the new measures had been raised by the Friends of Buckingham School and they were looking for sponsorship to buy three more.

Mr Tombs said the camera at the front of the school had caught someone throwing a brick in February and the police were currently investigating.
