The existing furniture in the hall dates from when it was built in 1988.

The chairs are hard plastic, ‘uncomfortable to sit on’ and a number of them are broken or have wobbly or bent legs.

This project will replace all the existing chairs with new ones and provide 20 new tables for use in the three halls.

Geoff Westcott, on behalf of Yapton & Ford Village Hall, said: “This grant will be of great benefit to our local community.

“It will help us make the village hall a more welcoming place and encourage more people, particularly the older residents, to come along and make new friends.”

Marianne Ivin, of SITA Trust, added: “This is a lovely little project that will clearly have a big impact on the users of the hall.

“Projects don’t always need to be large to make a huge difference.

“SITA Trust provides grants through the Landfill Communities Fund.

“This important source of funding has been available since 1997 and has provided such worthy projects with more than £1.4 billion.”
