New jobs set to be created in Angmering

SEVENTY-FIVE new jobs are being created in Angmering, promising a boost to the local economy.

Work to extend the Haskins Roundstone Garden Centre, on the A259, has now reached the half-way mark, and bosses are starting the process of hiring 50 part-time catering and 25 retail staff.

Dean Ridley, operations manager, said he and general manager Kirsty Goble hoped that by offering a mix of weekend, afternoon or morning positions, a large percentage of the 75 people needed could be recruited from the immediate area.

“We are effectively doubling the workforce in just a few months,” he said.

“Because we are to open a 460-seat restaurant within the new centre we will also be recruiting five full-time chefs.

“Our aim is to provide training at our existing centre on the site which is open while the new centre takes shape.”

The new centre, which is currently being built on 15 acres of commercial greenhouses, is due to open in March, and will sell indoor and outdoor plants, gifts, books, pets, clothing and furniture.

The restaurant will feature a pizza oven and serve Costa coffee, as well as offer free Wi-Fi.

An extendable function room, to be named the Roundstone Room will be made available to organisations and private parties.

Once the new building is complete, the existing store will be demolished, and a 500-space car park created.

The jobs will be promoted through the Littlehampton job centre, where application forms can be picked up from, or downloaded via the recruitment link at www.haskins.co.uk
