New Northiam PostOffice faces a delay

TECHNICAL issues mean that Northiam’s new Post Office will not be fully operational until April 25.

The new branch opened on Tuesday this week at the newly opened Jempsons store in the village. It has been scheduled to open a day earlier.

Temporary arrangements have been put in place .

A Post Office spokesman said: “This identified IT-related issue will take a few weeks to resolve and the new Post Office till can’t be used until then.

“However, in the meantime we have been able to put together a temporary solution to allow the branch to operate Monday to Saturday 09.00 – 17.30 using temporary equipment which is normally used to provide a visiting service in the community.

“The permanent equipment should be operational from April 25, then, the new Post Office operator Stephen Jempson will provide the full planned opening hours of Monday to Saturday: 08:00–20:00. This is an extra 34.5 hours a week including Saturday afternoon. The branch will also open earlier and close significantly later.

“The move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network.
