A REQUEST made four years ago by two Waldron children for new play equipment in the village finally came to fruition last week.

In 1997, a group of children led by Amie Lefort and Chloe Ellis made the request to Heathfield and Waldron Parish Council for new equipment which was suitable for older children.

The council promised that money would be set aside for such a scheme as soon as possible. Last year, a multi-play wooden unit, which was suitable for younger children, was acquired.

And last week parish council chairman Tony Trick officially opened a new play area, at the Waldron recreation ground, which can be used by older children.

The area was installed at a cost of around 10,000 by the council s contractors, CI and EJ Davis. Along with safety surfacing, the contractors installed a uniplay unit and spacewhirl roundabout.
