New rules for taxi signs brought in

STANDARD roof signs have been agreed for hackney carriage vehicles.

Arun District Council’s licensing and enforcement committee has agreed to a minimum size of the sign along with the wording and style of the logo of the council.

The roof sign will now form part of the vehicle licence conditions. The committee’s decision follows the introduction of the signs during 2010. But council licensing officer Glenn James said some firms had begun to use signs different from the version previously agreed.

The sign must be one quarter council logo and three quarters for the word ‘taxi’ with a company number and phone number.
