New start for a Bognor Regis charity shop

Local volunteer Audrey Seldon heralded a fresh start for a Bognor Regis charity shop.

Mrs Seldon has helped at the Cancer Research UK outlet for 19 of its 20 years.

She was chosen to officially open the High Street premises last Friday (MAY 4) after its revamp into a discount shop.

“I work here one day a week,” said Mrs Seldon, 83, of South Bersted. “It keeps my brain ticking over. I’ve been here such a long time many of our customers know me when they see me shopping.”

The shop’s new interior was created by manager Sue Roberts. Relief manager Gary Tuhill painted the outside.

Yvonne Roberts, Cancer Research UK’s area manager, said its shops contributed £20m towards the charity each year.

“Bognor has changed a lot since this shop opened and we have decided to make its goods more competitive in their pricing,” she said.

“We have to move with the times and take account of the economic climate.”
