New station on line?

A NEW mainline railway station for Littlehampton is just one of the proposals revealed in a new goverment-commissioned study.

Called Littlehampton Parkway, it could soon be on the map alongside improvements to the A27 at Arundel, Fontwell and Slindon Common thanks to the south coast multi-modal study carried out by transport consultants Halcrow.

Project manager David Turner said: "The various approaches towards dealing with future transport needs along the south coast reflect comments and feedback from a wide range or regional and local organisations, as well as members of the local community."

Safer routes to school are also called for, as well as travel awareness education and extra bus routes.

The study began last summer and, although no decisions had been made on how the road improvements are to be made, public opinion will form the final part of the consultation by a series of exhibitions.

Also included are proposed hikes in long-term parking fees in Arundel as well as a new through rail service linking Chichester with Lewes.

Exhibitions are planned to allow the public to have its say, forming the final part of the consultation process on the south coast multi modal study, which began last summer.

Arundel Town Council offices is hosting an exhibition from May 23-25.

It will be open to the public from noon to 6pm on May 23, 10am to 5pm on May 24 and from 10am to 4pm on May 25.
