New threat in landfill site battle

West Sussex residents fighting a new landfill site proposal for their village have been faced with an additional threat of an existing landfill site being re-opened and extended.

An action group formed in Washington to oppose plans by Veolia to create a huge landfill operation at Rock Common is now also fighting a surprise planning application by Biffa Waste Services to begin landfilling again at the Windmill site adjacent to Rock Common quarry.

Chanctonbury Landfill Action Group, headed by chairman John Aukland, and acting as an independent association, is completely opposed to the further filling of land with waste in this area.
