New Twins

TWINNING links with the German town of Kunzell came a step closer when Rustington presented its charter document to burgermeister Herman Bruck.

The formal exchange took place during a successful weekend visit to Rustington by an 11-strong delegation from Kunzell, led by Herr Bruck, with a full programme organised by Rustington Twinning Association.

The German guests stayed with host families in the Rustington area and were welcomed by parish council chairman Moira Rice at an informal reception at the Woodland Centre.

Mrs Rice, Herr Bruck and twinning association chairman Alma Leonard then unveiled one of the new signs on the boundary of Rustington, showing its joint twinning arrangements, now with Los Altos, California, and Kunzell.

The twinning charter was exchanged during a formal dinner at the Woodland Centre, when Mrs Rice presented the framed document, in German, to Herr Bruck, confirming Rustington's acceptance of Kunzell as a twin town.

Gifts were also exchanged by Mrs Leonard and the German party, before the Kuzell guests sang a few songs, including Wooden Heart, for their hosts.

Other highlights of the weekend included a visit to Brighton Pavilion and skittles at the Maypole Inn, Yapton.

A return visit to Kunzell is now being planned by the twinning association committee, to finalise the twinning arrangements with the presentation to Rustington of a similar charter from Kunzell.
