New Volk's railway station installed at Brighton seafront

Designed by Hove-based ABIR Architects and built by Boutique Modern at its Newhaven warehouse, the new Volk’s Railway Aquarium station arrived at Madeira Drive last night (June 14).

This morning, the three elements of the modular building were set to be craned into their home on the beach on Madeira Drive.

The new building will house the Volk’s Railway Aquarium Station and a new visitor centre.

It forms part of a £1.65 million Heritage Lottery-funded improvement scheme of the Volk's Railway.

The Volk's Railway was the first public electric railway in the world. It was first opened in August 1883 by Magnus Volk.

The railway line, which runs along Brighton's seafront, has been undergoing renovation since last summer. It is set to reopen later this year.

Council leader Warren Morgan said: “It’s great to see progress with yet another project, this time east of the Palace Pier, in addition to everything going on to improve things on the seafront. We must easily have the busiest seafront in the country in terms of investment.”
