New Worthing charity shop funds bid for Olympic gold

THE dedicated family and friends of a top-class water polo player have set up a charity shop with a difference.

All the money raised at the store in South Street, Tarring, will go towards helping Ziggy Tate play the sport for Great Britain.

The 18-year-old needs the money because the British team is entirely self-funded.

And if he is able to continue playing, Ziggy hopes to be part of the sport's Olympic squad in either 2012 or 2016.

Ziggy, of St Mary's Close, Littlehampton, said: "I have a great support group made up of friends and family and they came up with the idea of this shop to help me.

"They all volunteer in there.

"It's really nice of them to do it."

County swimmer

Ziggy started playing water polo aged 11 after he began swimming for the county.

He joined the Worthing Swimming Club team and said he instantly loved it.

He is now doing an engineering and manufacturing course in Grantham, where several other members of the GB water polo team are based, and trains for around 18 hours a week.
