New Year’s honours for Arundel pair

Pauline Carder, of Tarrant Street, will be made an MBE for her dedication to voluntary services to heritage.

She helped to spearhead the drive in building the new £1.5m Arundel museum in Mill Road, which was officially opened in June.

Pauline, who has lived in Arundel for more than 50 years, said: “I was delighted when I heard.

“Delighted not only because it has taken 15 years to get there but I’m pleased that someone has recognised the achievement of all the volunteers, not only myself, who have worked tirelessly to make the museum happen.”

She added: “I’m quite excited to be receiving the honour.

“I really wanted to thank the local community of Arundel who have backed us the whole way.

“I must have held something like 24 fundraising events in just over a year and the support has been amazing.”

Alongside Pauline to receive an honour this year includes Arundel man, Mark Spofforth.

Mark will be made an OBE for his services to accountancy.

For the past year, he has been the president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales.

He has held a number of influential posts within and outside the institute, including service on the takeover panel, and the Department of Business Innovation and Skills Deregulatory Strategy Group.
