WHAT'S ON?: Whether it's because of post-Brexit gloom and the economic downturn, our departure from the European Cup or the really appalling weather, there seems to be little going on in Waldron in the next month to cheer us up. So the prospect of an energetic young theatre group coming to perform in All Saints' (booked by George Pitcher) is one bright spot on the near horizon. The company is the Riding Lights Theatre Co performing Let Loose at All Saints' on Saturday July 9 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 each and are available from Ian Dixon (01435) 813363. Pre-publicity tells us nothing about plot or theme, but that means it will be a lovely surprise.

BT FIBRE OPTICS: A round-robin letter from a traffic management company announces that there will be essential maintenance works going on in Waldron from June 30 to July 12 to install a new BT fibre optics cabinet. There will be temporary traffic lights affecting Rocks Lane, The Street and Whitehouse Lane and during the ten days of operations there will be some noise and inconvenience and the company apologises to residents for any disruption. If it means that our internet service will actually work at speed faster than snail’s pace, I think we’ll all be able to put up with that.

CHILDREN’S SOCIETY: There will be a Children’s Society coffee morning on Thursday at Lark Rise, Whitehouse Lane, from 10.30am to midday.

PUB QUIZ: After this week’s pub quiz at which there were low numbers due to some teams staying at home to enjoy the footie England v Iceland match (should have come to the quiz, boys, it was more interesting), there will be a summer break now before the next one which will be in September.

SERVICES: This Sunday both morning services will be at All Saints’ at 8am for Holy Communion and at 10am for Parish Eucharist. The new Parish Diary for July to end September is now available at both churches listing all services and other events.
